About Us

The Social House in Carmi, completed in 1905 by John M. Crebs, was kept in the Crebs family for eighty years, and has often over the years been referred to as "The Fountains". This charming Inn is located at 311 West Main in the heart of Carmi.

Now an impressive Neo Classic Revival Inn, The Social House was completed in 1905 by John M. Crebs, a prominent banker and landowner. Upon entering the foyer, the grand mahogany staircase is enchanting and moves your thoughts to an era worth remembering. Mr. Crebs' library is located to the left of the foyer, still complimented with solid oak lead glass bookcases and a stunning chandelier. Paneled solid oak pocket doors allow you entry from the foyer and another set draws you into the formal dining room where the fireplace is accented by a sunlit tiffany stained window. This room makes meetings or dining an absolute pleasure.  To the right of the foyer is a large parlor with a walnut fireplace as its centerpiece.  In the back of the home is a terra-cotta tile floored garden room overlooking a brick courtyard surrounded by a white picket fence.  The architectural beauty of the home continues into the nine bedrooms.

Whether you are in town to visit family and friends, need to host a meeting or party, or are looking for a romantic weekend getaway, The Social House is ready to accommodate you.

The Bedrooms inside The Social House

Each bedroom is unique in its own décor and personal charm of history and all have private baths. The kitchen is very functional with solid surface countertops and modern commercial appliances and fixtures. The lower level includes an additional two bedrooms with full baths and a full kitchen.

They include The Port, The Crebs, The Robinson, The Kendall, The Mufti, The Stein, The Oxford/Austin, The Boggs, and The Evans.  Each bedroom is named for a former owner of the home.

The Carriage House

At the rear of the property is a century old carriage house with living quarters upstairs (The Loft) that has been beautifully renovated to include a pet friendly living area with full kitchen and bathroom.  Downstairs there is a climate controlled room for people who wish to stay in the main house and keep their pets kenneled on the premises.
